BarreConcept is a creative 60 minute workout, which combines the precision of Pilates, alignment of yoga and the grace and technique of ballet. Add to this the strength from sports conditioning and you have all the elements of a typical BarreConcept session.
This unique programme is designed to tone the thighs, lift the butt, sculpt the arms and flatten the abdominals. Full range muscular contractions are performed, followed by end range isometric contractions and then a static hold in order to fatigue the muscle. Stretches follow directly afterwards in order to elongate the muscles, creating that long, lean physique. Equipment such as balls, weights and bands are added to the class to challenge the body further.
You must be an existing instructor in order to qualify to take the BarreConcept® certification course. We accept any of the following qualifications:
Group Fitness Instructor (Gym instructor/ Exercise to Music)
Accredited Dance Instructor
If you do not posess any of the relevant qualifications but have other industry teaching experience or similar qualifications (e.g. physiotherpist), please email us and we can assess your suitability to take this course.
If you have no teaching experience or qualifications, then you must obtain a relevant qualification to enter into the fitness industry before taking the BarreConcept training course. The most basic course for entry into the fitness industry at Level 2 would be an Exercise to Music course.
BarreConcept is classed as CPD (continuing professional development) and therefore you are building upon your existing knowledge and qualifications within the fitness industry. The course assumes a certain level of knowledge combined with industry experience and will be taught according to that level.
There are several costs involved in the BarreConcept Instructor Training. These include the course cost, training manual, exam assessment fee and lifetime membership fee and these are all detailed in full below.

Assessment One - Theory Quiz.
There are 15 theory questions, which we will discuss on the course as a group task. For the online version, this will take the form of a quick quiz.
Assessment Two - Practical one hour exam.
You must submit a video of you teaching a minimum of two healthy adults. You must teach from your choreographed week 5 lesson plan routine that you will learn on the course.
This one hour lesson routine includes the warm up, barre work and floorwork. You will be assessed on a list of selected criteria. These categories include: safety; modifications; teaching points; observation; correction; demonstration; proper technique; tactile cueing; pitch and tone of voice. You will be given the full list of criteria on the course so that you can prepare for your practical assessment accordingly.
Ideally, you can use an iPad to film your exam video. Place the iPad on a surface where you and your client are in full view for the entire video. It is suggested to film for a few minutes and then check your video to see that the angle is correct and that your voice is sufficiently audible. If everything seems fine, go ahead and video your full lesson.
Upon completions of your video, you can upload this onto any internet application that allows you to send large files (e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, We Transfer or You Send It). You must not upload to You Tube or any publicly viewable social media. You may also put your video onto a CD or USB stick and send via the post.
Please note that there is a £45 cost for your assessment. This covers your assessors time to watch your video and give you feedback. This also covers the cost of your certificate.
Upon successful completion of all assessments, you will receive CPD points from your relevant body, along with the Pilates Union certificate of competency to teach BarreConcept.
Candidates who refer any aspect of the assessment will be offered an opportunity to re-take that element in accordance with the terms and conditions and guidelines of the approved centre. Re-taking of any assessment will incur another £45 fee. However, if you refer on your second attempt, we suggest you complete the teacher training again. This will be offered to you at half the price of the cost of your original course fee.
